When you pay for master grade wood in many species you normally get more structurally sound wood (except where you are asking for figured wood). For example, a real master grade rosewood should be perfectly straight and narrow grained, perfectly quartersawn. Or spruce should be likewise perfectly straight grained, quartersawn, and with no runout. Structurally these kinds of woods are not only the most beautiful but they are the most stable and will last many lifetimes. Some sellers and buyers have bamboozled people into believing that swirly or curvy grained flatsawn rosewood or similar 'off the ideal' woods are desirable but they will not be as stable over the years.
